This is a fantastic book. What is not to love about this book. Both are fascinating accounts, chock full of one fascinating Mayan site after another, and offer the thrill of original discovery that Stephens and Catherwood shared during their groundbreaking expeditions. I won't go into analyzing the characters or summarizing the plot because many reviewers before me have already done so.

I just have to reiterate that I found myself not being able to put these books down time and time again. I am on my 10th read and study and I am amazed at how this book continues to have such an impact on me. I did not expect to finish the book. They were times when police men or authorities would give the Jews a hard time, like in the story "Status Quo", when a police inspector is cracking down on all the Kosher butchers.
